You & Me

The Ultimate Venue fo a Date with the Man you LOVE is the SKYVIEW BAR at Burj al Arab.

Burj Al Arab is the world's 7 star hotel. It is the iconic and symbolic statement of Dubai. I would say that, if you are a tourist who would only visit Dubai once in your life then I suggest you visit the Burj Al Arab and have the afternoon tea.

I always tell my guests that (especially if they are on a tight budget fo their vacation) the least expensive restaurant (You need to have a restaurant reservation to be accomodated inside the hotel) is the Skyview Bar. And there are 2 things you can do there.
1.) Afternoon Tea (Overflowing scones, pastries, canapes, tea, coffee, juice + 1 glass of champagne each person) worth 395dhs equivalent to approximately $120 per person.
2.) Cocktails (Minimum of 250dhs equivalent to approximately $75) and they will provide you with an ala carte menu to choose from.

You just have to decide whether you want to see the view (Afternoon Tea starts 1pm-4pm) where its so surreal or you just want to have cocktails in the evening but you get to see lights instead of the spectacular views.
Note that Kids are not allowed in any Bars of Dubai. To be honest, I think there are a vast things to do and a lot of places to go to in Dubai but this is not a kid-friendly place. I think the government is on the process of providing entertainment to kids. But for now, kids will have to content with Kidzania and Zega at Dubai Mall and some Parks.

Imagine having a chance to have a window table!

Beamer arrived in Dubai from NY, Valentines Day 2010. We could not go to Burj because he arrived late in the evening and was on duty since its a full occupancy in the hotel. So, I booked (ahead of time to guarantee a table) for the Afternoon Tea, a day after Valentines Day.
Tip: Book for the earliest time (1pm) so you can have 90% possibility that you will have a window table. Inform the Reservations Agent about your request. And whatever you are celebrating for so they would entertain your request.

Beamer is scared of heights but I got him to the Panoramic Lift.

Irish Village Bullfrog

"Of all the gin joints in all the towns in the world, she walks into mine." Rick Blaine (Humprey Bogart) in Casablanca

February 14,2010:
Beamer arrived in Dubai. I was exhilirated! I was so excited and part of the itinerary was for him to go to Irish Village (Aviation Club) and have Bullfog tasting.

I remembered that day. I checked-in at the hotel (with the help of Kimmy) and waited at the airport for Beamer with Mau. My friend Mau works in the airport so she knew people. I particularly wanted the "person" who can accompany Beamer for the assistance and guidance in airport clearance, otherwise known as the Marhaba Service.

While Europeans adore Dubai, Americans are quite adamant to come here. Of course with the exception of the servicemen of US navigating gulf. My sister who works in the navy went to Bahrain and UAE a few years back and she loved it here. I on the other hand, decided to work here in Dubai and ended up enjoying the past 3 years and 4 months.

Where was I?

So, as soon as I saw Beamer we went back to the hotel and Kimmy made breakfast for him though it was like 11pm because it was "breakfast" on his time zone. We had "Longganisa" (filipino pork sausage) and fried eggs and rice (which is staple for Filipino's). We all decided to go to Irish Village just to celebrate Valentine's Day.

We arived at the Aviation and it was surprisingly boring at 12midnight. We had bullfrogs each but the waitress was kinda "annoying" and refused to give us food or even fries to go with our Bullfrogs. When our bullfrog arrived it looked BULLFROG alright but it tasted more of a soda than the spirits-contained drink. Beamer commented it was a pint ice-filled glass with Blue Curacao. It was so bland that we ended up in the hotel room drinking the tequila. Only on that time, we had a blast.

The service at the Irish Village was simply not good enough and I dont have that much high standards for a dive bar. The waitress looked like she was underpaid and was cranky because of this. Ha Ha Ha!

In the morning, we woke Kimmy who passed out in the living room and we had breakfast.

In the end, as what Beamer stated it to be: Irish Village Bullfrog-"All BULL! No FROG!"
